safety-act-designation-markCalpipe Security Bollards®, a leading manufacturer of security barriers that protect some of the country’s most high-profile and high-traffic pedestrian sites, announced that its Perimeter Defense Technology (PDT) line of security bollards has earned the U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act designation.

The designation provides liability protection to customers purchasing PDT bollards in the event of an act of terrorism. Designations are awarded to products deployed in defense against acts of terrorism.

Calpipe’s Perimeter Defense Technology bollards already meet stringent independent testing standards set by the Department of State, Department of Defense or American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and are “K-rated”, “M-rated”, or “S-rated” to stop vehicles traveling at a certain weight and speed. The product line includes deep-mount, shallow-mount, retractable and removable bollards to meet any security situation. Calpipe PDT bollards are manufactured in the United States and are used to protect pedestrian plazas, landmarks, major sports venues, U.S. embassies and various other pedestrian sites across North America.

“Calpipe is proud that our bollards are helping to protect some of the most-visited pedestrian destinations and venues across the country. The Homeland Security SAFETY Act designation is another indication that Calpipe bollards are proven to increase safety and security, and can help save lives and property,” said Rob Reiter, Calpipe’s Chief Security Officer.

Passed by Congress in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, the SAFETY Act – which stands for Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies – is intended to ensure the threat of liability does not deter manufacturers or sellers of anti-terrorism technologies from developing technologies that could save lives. Applications to receive the designation are reviewed by a panel of security experts.
